Inspired by the flute playing of Richard Egües from the legendary Orquesta Aragon, "Charanga del Norte" (Charanga from the North) was set up in November 1998.
A vibrant, foot-tapping, hip-swinging ensemble, the band's music is overflowing with passion, desire and great Cuban rhythms!
Charanga del Norte consists of flute, violins, viola, electric bass, piano, vocals, timbales, congas and güiro. Their UK 2003 Tour covered venues from Aberdeen to Sidmouth and included a concert at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester supporting Buena Vista virtuoso Eliades Ochoa. Their UK 2005 tour covered venues from Fife to Cornwall and culminated in a live recording (Sapo Guapo) at Trowbridge Festival and the band are touring in 2008.
